Emerging Leadership Development for SPED Directors

Kansas Emerging Leadership Development is designed to address the needs of special education leaders in year two and beyond. The program will kick off with an in-person two-day event in September. Participants will then meet again in-person for an additional four dates throughout the year. We also recommend participants schedule 6-8 personal coaching sessions per year.

The KEDS Network has developed six domains of executive leadership upon which this program will be based. Those include Visionary Leadership, Change Leadership, Inclusive Leadership, Instructional Leadership, Managerial Leadership, and Interpersonal Leadership.

CONTENT

Professional development will be customized to participants, including multiple opportunities for leaders to process and apply the content to their own unique context in their districts. Learning will be focused on 1-2 strategies at a time and will be supported by the group functioning as a learning community. Monthly coaching sustained over the course of the year will encourage reflection that supports deeper learning and reflection on real-life scenarios to refine their approaches to problem solving. This structured sequence of learning will help participants develop leadership competencies across domains of leadership.
