Bruce Wellman explores the important relationship between administrators and the teachers they support. Based on a three-phase model of learning, this session offers practical tools, specific templates, and technical tips for educators who help others in increasing the effectiveness of their practice. We will explore a continuum of interaction, from calibrating (framing expectations, clarifying standards, and articulating success criteria) to consulting (sharing expertise and providing technical assistance) to collaboration (shared planning and problem solving) to coaching (a non-judgmental interaction which supports reflection and develops professional capacity).
Topics will include defining and developing the mentor/teacher relationship, development from novice to expert thinking, and shifting from teaching-focused to learning-focused supervisory practices.
Participants will learn:
How to apply verbal and non-verbal skills: Coaching to Consulting
Methods for providing feedback to improve decision-making
Tools for planning, reflecting, and problem solving
