Ralph Beacham, Associate Executive Director, Southeast Kansas Education Service Center – Greenbush (Interlocal 609) has been named the 2011 Outstanding Service Award recipient by United School Administrators of Kansas (USA|Kansas). Beacham was recognized by the association and colleagues on Thursday, January 27, 2011, during the USA|Kansas annual convention in Wichita.
Each year, USA|Kansas bestows upon one of its administrators the Outstanding Service Award – the highest honor the organization awards. This individual is nominated by the presidents of each of the 10 statewide member associations and is recognized for outstanding contributions to the profession and for exemplary leadership. This individual MUST be a member of USA|Kansas. The final selection will not be announced until the opening session at the USA|Kansas annual convention on Thursday, January 27, 2011.
Topeka - Rod Garman, North Fairview Elementary School principal, has been named United School Administrators of Kansas (USA|Kansas) president for 2011-2012. In 2009, Garman was appointed to the USA|Kansas board of directors by the Kansas Association of Elementary School Principals (KAESP).
Topeka – Dodge City High School principal and USA|Kansas president Jacque Feist has been named the 2010 Kansas High School Principal of the Year. Feist has served at Dodge City High School since 1997 and is currently serving a second term as USA|Kansas president.
Topeka – Sabetha Superintendent Dennis Stones has been named the 2010 Outstanding Service Award recipient by United School Administrators of Kansas (USA|Kansas). Stones was recognized by the association and colleagues during the USA|Kansas annual convention in Wichita last week.

Topeka - USA|Kansas and several other education organizations issued a press statement outlining concerns that state funding cuts are eroding the state’s high quality education system.

As Kansas students began returning to class this month, school district representatives say they have tried to maintain the quality of instruction and services helping students succeed. But they say important programs and positions have already been cut, and further funding cuts will affect learning opportunities for all students.

KSDE has provided a run, SF12-051 (January 10, 2012), which provides the effects of a proposed school finance plan being offered by Democratic leaders in the Kansas Legislature. The plan provides for an increase in BSAPP for the 2012-13 school year of $66.75; in the 2013-14 school year an additional $66.75 and in the 2014-15 school year an additional $133.50 (based upon 50 percent of the state general fund increase.) Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, this plan will provide general state aid based upon 50 percent of the state general fund increase (excluding KPERS).

Governor Brownback's Excellence in Education Act is now available online. While some part of the plan looked familiar, the bill included many other provisions that are still being reviewed. The bill is 138 pages long. Click here to download the bill.

KSDE has updated the Governor’s school finance reform plan based upon information available at this time (January 24, 2012). It is important to note that this plan would not take effect until the 2013-14 school year. Click here to download SF12-066.
