Governor announces FY 2010 budget allotments
This afternoon, Governor Mark Parkinson announced about a quarter-billion dollars in Fiscal Year 2010 budget cuts. The K-12 education highlights are included below:
- The “supplemental appropriations” request for $100 million to meet the current fiscal year’s school finance obligations WILL NOT be funded.
- FY 2010 funding for K-12 education will be reduced by approximately $36 million.
- The current BSAPP will be approximately $4,012 -- approximately the same funding level as 2006. Click here to access the KSDE report on how districts will be impacted.
- The Governor indicated that they WILL NOT request a federal waiver allowing the state to go below the 2006 funding level.
- The Governor also indicated that K-12 and higher education WILL NOT be decoupled.
House Appropriations Committee hears from school administrators
The House Appropriations Committee is also meeting this afternoon and tomorrow. Today, the Committee agenda includes testimony from a number of individuals, including three school administrators:
- Fred Kauffman, Superintendent, Hays USD 489
- Gary French, Superintendent, Osawatomie USD 367
- Rob Winter, Superintendent, Salina USD 305
