Aug 23, 2009 - 10:11:37 PM
Topeka - We are pleased to announce that United School Administrators of Kansas (USA|Kansas) and the National Joint Powers Alliance® (NJPA) have formed a statewide partnership that provides public school districts the opportunity to save money and staff resources on the purchase of school classroom/office supplies, technology solutions, and industrial/construction equipment that is all awarded under a national competitive bid award process.

NJPA® is endorsed by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), the National Organization of Coaches Association Directory (NOCAD), the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) and SciQuest.

The NJPA® Cooperative Purchasing Program currently serves more than 26,000 organizations and allows access to more than 45 nationally bid contacts, including thousands of products and services. Participating vendors include Staples, Canon, School Specialty Furniture and Equipment, Sharp and more.

Several Kansas districts currently participate in the NJPA Cooperative Purchasing Program to:
  • Access to competitively bid contracts
  • Take advantage of nationally leveraged and aggregated pricing services
  • Access a broad range of high quality products and services and
  • Realize time and resource savings for participating members
This national, competitively bid procurement and contract process often meets or exceeds local requirements*. With NJPA, there is no need to duplicate the local formal competitive bid requirement...they have done all the work for you.

Kansas districts are eligible to participate in the program without completing any additional paperwork.

Visit the Member Section/Benefit Center for additional information.

*Prior to executing the purchase order, it is a district's responsibility to interpret local purchasing laws to determine their ability to access and participate with NJPA contracts. Districts should review and accept the terms and conditions of the specific IFB of interest and to execute the purchase order with the awarded vendor.

Governor announces plan for balancing FY 2010 budget

Governor Parkinson announced Friday morning his plan to make up $106 million shortfall in the current budget year. Two of the measures included in the plan can be accomplished by the governor himself, but the remaining four measures will require legislative action. In laying out his plan, the governor spared education, social services, and public safety from further cuts in the FY 2010 year. The governor maintains that $21million of the shortfall can be explained by tax refunds that were paid out earlier than usual, due to electronic filing this year, so his plan addresses the remaining $85 million shortfall.
