Administrators invited to comment on proposed changes to college admissions standards
Jul 6, 2010 - 6:52:21 AM
On August 25, 2010, USA|Kansas, KASSP, KASA and KASCD will appear before the Kansas Board of Regents State University Admissions Task Force to discuss proposed changes to the undergraduate admissions standards. During the 2009 Legislative session, the Kansas Board of Regents gained authority to establish admissions standards for the state's public universities.

The Regents believe the proposed changes will provide widespread access, retain the state's best and brightest students and enhance the prospects for student success. However, K-12 administrators have repeatedly raised concerns about limited communication between K-12 and postsecondary education, whether data supports the need to change admissions standards and challenges associated with implementation.

The proposed changes come at the same time that the state is working to implement common course codes, determine the impact of the Common Core Standards and conducting a Gap Analysis and Alignment study to examine the gap between the knowledge and skills of graduating high school students and entry-level postsecondary students.

The letter of invitation, the proposed admissions changes and previous USA|Kansas comments are included below.
